About the event
Plymouth Military Wives Choir celebrated the 8th birthday of the choir on 21st April 2019 - a birthday shared with Her Majesty The Queen.
Since the choir formed in 2011 we have had some amazing experiences, wonderful successes and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for various charities, both military and civilian.
Our own charity ‘Military Wives Choirs Foundation’ a registered subsidiary charity of SSAFA was created in 2012, and the focus is to support the volunteer committees of each choir up and running, and to enable other military bases to set up new choirs.
There are now over 70 Military Wives Choirs worldwide and Plymouth are very proud to have started the network of choirs along with the ladies of Chivenor, following the success of 2011 BBCs Twenty Twenty ‘The Choir Military Wives’ led by choirmaster Gareth Malone.
The ladies of Plymouth and Chivenor rose to the dizzy heights of The Official Charts Company Christmas No.1 spot in 2011 with their hit single ‘Wherever You Are’ written by Royal Composer Professor Paul Mealor with excerpts taken from letters donated to him to and from the ladies loved ones.
Rob Young, Musical Director joined Plymouth Military Wives Choir in December 2011 and Kathy Kenny, Accompanist joined us in late 2012. We are blessed and honoured to have such a fabulous team of highly talented musicians who have the patience of saints and support the ladies with immense guidance and encouragement.
